Colleen Houston, President IABC/Calgary 2025-26I’m honoured to step into the role of President as we launch a new year at IABC/Calgary. With nearly two decades in the communications profession, I’ve seen firsthand how strong communications can:

  • Shape narratives,
  • Drive business outcomes, and
  • Create meaningful impact.

That power has never been more important than it is today.

Our chapter has navigated significant shifts in recent years. COVID lockdowns, market volatility and global membership changes have shaped us. Thanks to the dedication of past boards and volunteers, we’ve continued to deliver value and connection through it all.

This year we’re building on that foundation with a renewed focus on what matters most: our members. Strategy and purpose are guiding the 2025/26 board year.

IABC reflects the diverse needs of professionals at every stage of their career. That’s why we’re committed to high-quality programming, inclusive engagement and thought leadership. Through these efforts, IABC/Calgary aims to strengthen the communications profession in our city.

Communications in Calgary

Calgary is one of Canada’s most dynamic communications communities. The city offers a unique mix of industries – from energy and technology to health care, nonprofits and the arts. This diversity creates constant demand for skilled communicators.

Communications professionals in Calgary often bridge local priorities with global conversations. As a result, adaptability is a core strength of many of our professionals. IABC/Calgary members play a vital role in helping organizations tell their stories, engage stakeholders, and build trust.

By fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, the IABC/Calgary chapter strengthens both the communications profession and our city.

What’s ahead

This year IABC/Calgary is investing in programming and content that support professional development and connection. Here’s how we’re putting our strategy into action:

  • Monthly events in a variety of formats to increase options and improve accessibility.
  • Fresh content focused on timely topics and industry trends.
  • Opportunities for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that deliver tailored experiences to sub-communities, including early-career professionals, crisis communicators, internal communicators, and nonprofit communicator.

Meet the Board

I’m proud to serve alongside a fantastic group of directors this year. Passionate communicators make up the 2025/26 IABC/Calgary Board. They bring energy, insight and a shared commitment to our members. Their leadership is already shaping a year full of momentum and meaningful connection.

Join us

This community has been a big part of my own career journey. Now, as President, I’m excited to lead with this incredible board and create new opportunities for growth, mentorship and collaboration.

I invite you to get involved, share your ideas and help shape the future of communications in our city. Let’s make this year one of renewed momentum and shared success.
