It’s that time of year again—we’re looking for new members for our board for the upcoming term!
One of the most important parts of an IABC membership is the local connection, and that’s what our team of volunteers provides. We plan networking and professional development opportunities, manage budgets and do our best to make sure our members feel appreciated and get the most value from their IABC membership.
Here are some of the most common questions I get asked about being on the IABC/Calgary board:
What role should I apply for?
When you take a look at our application form, you can see a list of the roles we have available and a description of each one. The nice thing about volunteering with IABC/Calgary is that you can apply for a position that builds on your strengths, or try something in an area that stretches your skills.
How big is the time commitment?
Our board term runs from July – June. A big part of the commitment is our monthly meeting, which currently happens the first Monday evening of the month. The work you do between meetings can depend on the portfolio you take on (and your strategic plan) but expect to put in at least another few hours every month.
What’s the best thing about being on the IABC/Calgary board?
It’s hard to name just one! Joining the IABC/Calgary board provides you a great understanding of boards work, an opportunity to give back to the communications community, and connections to build your career. An added bonus is the friends you’ll make along the way—so many lifelong friendships start with IABC.
If joining the board is something you’ve thought about doing, we’d love to have you fill out an application by April 18, 2025. You can also reach out to me at Calgary-executive@iabc.com if you have any questions and I’d be happy to reschedule a chat!
