With the end of summer, September brings change and the opportunity to take stock of where we’ve been and what comes next. For IABC/Calgary, we have a lot to reflect on this year. We are welcoming new faces to our executive board, celebrating our chapter’s 60th anniversary, and welcoming the world for IABC World Conference 2027.

As the board gets back to work after the summer, nine new members have joined, bringing fresh ideas and renewed energy.

“It’s going to be a really big, fun year,” said IABC/Calgary President Natasha Cousin, who has rejoined the board having previously volunteered as Director, Events and Professional Development.

Cousin joined IABC 15 years ago as she started on her communications career. As her career has progressed, IABC/Calgary has always been a meaningful part of it.

“I’ve made some great friendships that have come from the people that I’ve met, either at IABC events or through volunteering,” she said.

With 60 years of history, Cousin’s story of friendship and career impact is repeated over and over in the IABC/Calgary communications community.

While the anniversary details aren’t finalized yet, IABC/Calgary will be recognizing the hard work and volunteerism of the many people who have made IABC/Calgary what it is today.

Alongside recognizing our past, Cousin said that the board is looking at ways to strengthen the chapter for the future.

“Our focus is on strengthening relationships and providing opportunities for members to grow and develop, like our mentorship program, PD events, volunteerism and CMP/SCMP certification,” said Cousin.

That spirit of connection and mentorship will be on full display as IABC/Calgary welcomes the world this June for IABC World Conference 2027.

“Whether you have professional development funds set aside or you’re setting your goals for the year, save the dates, June 13 to 15,” said Cousin.
