To close out our professional development board year, this event will offer IABC Calgary members, future members and students an opportunity to hear from Colleen Turner, VP Community Engagement and Communications with Alberta Health Services.

Communicating and engaging throughout the pandemic has been a challenge like no other, and Colleen hopes to share a few thoughts on her own learnings, bumps in the road, recovery, concerns and hopes for the future.

About Colleen:

Colleen is an experienced communications executive skilled in multidimensional strategic communications and engagement with stakeholders and the public. She is a former journalist with a passion for storytelling, and mobilizing individuals, communities and organizations to support and further common goals.

She has built a career trying to lead with values and vulnerability, and is grateful for every team member she has worked with this past pandemic year. She enjoys dynamic, complex environments and tries to bring gratitude and resilience to her role. She’s served at Alberta Health Services since 2010; prior to she that had the opportunity to lead teams at the University of Calgary.

Communicating and engaging throughout the pandemic has been a challenge like no other, and she hopes to share a few thoughts on her own learnings, bumps in the road, recovery, concerns and hopes for the future.

Colleen’s role at AHS covers strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, foundation relations and government relations. She draws from skills and experience gathered over more than two decades spent communicating with Albertans. She worked as a reporter/editor at the St. Catharines Standard, Hamilton Spectator, and Calgary Herald, and as a vice president in the Communications Department of the University of Calgary prior to joining AHS in 2010.

Colleen holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts in journalism, a Bachelor of Arts in French literature, and a Master’s degree in education. She also is an accredited business communicator through the International Association of Business Communicators.

Colleen is a mom, an early morning runner, cyclist, and swimmer (when pools reopen), and stops to say hello to all dogs.
