In the past year, many of us have been negatively affected by the downturn in the oil and gas sector. But do we let it get us down? No. We change career paths, attend networking and professional development events, and take courses to upgrade our communications skills. If that’s you, then more power to you! Reflecting on IABC/Calgary’s achievements in 2015
We’ve had another fabulous year at IABC/Calgary, mainly thanks to the support of our members and the dedication of our board and volunteers. I’d like to thank each of you for all that you do for our chapter. Because of you, our members are vibrant professional business communicators who are winning regional (Silver Leaf) and international (Gold Quill) awards in record numbers. Congratulations to all the 2015 winners!
IABC/Calgary was also a winner this year: we won five (yes, five!) Chapter Management Awards that earned us bragging rights at the international level!
Celebrate!
Last week, we feted the season with our annual joint IABC/CPRS Christmas Party. As you can see from the photos on Twitter, a good time was had by all!

IABC International’s brand was launched in June (see the new logo), so we are now in the process of updating IABC/Calgary’s own brand. At this point, all I dare tell you is that it will be totally Calgary and a great fit with IABC – stay tuned!
New Professional Certification for Communicators
IABC/Calgary will host one of the first exams for the new Communication Management Professional (CMP) Certification on April 9, 2016. It conforms to ISO17024 global standards for professional certifications and is well worth considering if you are a communications generalist or specialist. IABC/Calgary will offer an information session in the New Year. Watch for the date, which will be posted in our weekly newsletter.
