The IABC Calgary Chapter is hosting the first Communication Management Professional (CMP) Certification exam for communicators in generalist/specialist roles on Saturday, April 9 at Mount Royal University from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
You must submit your application to be able to take the exam for priority consideration by March 9, 2016. The last date for registration to take the examination in Calgary is March 26, so there is plenty of time for even more applicants to register. The time is now!
The CMP Certification has been launched by the Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC) which has been assigned by the International Standards Organization (ISO) and sponsored by IABC. The examination is open to all communications professionals around the world this year. This is the first of four certification levels that will be offered.
The CMP Certification level is targeted at communicators with approximately five to seven years of general communications experience. The minimum requirement, according to the application and Candidate Handbook, is six years of experience plus two years of education OR eight years of experience; both with 40 hours of training.
The GCCC is not actively recruiting or marketing the CMP certification for Accredited Business Communicators (ABCs). The career levels of Strategic Advisor and Business Leader (not yet launched) and two levels beyond the CMP level, will be more in-line with those who have earned their ABC through the previous IABC program. The Strategic Advisor Certification level is tentatively set for availability in 2017. A second exam sitting for the CMP Certification will be hosted in October 2016.
