Join the IABC/Calgary Sustainability in Energy Special Interest Group (SIG) on Tuesday, November 21 for a presentation on industry and public perceptions of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting in the Canadian oil and gas industry.

Tony Rino, communications and public relations leader, will be sharing his research on understanding public perceptions on ESG.

“It’s not about understanding ESG matters, it’s about understanding public perceptions and how to best communicate ESG matters,” says Tony. “While my research was conducted two years ago and the landscape continues to evolve, the fundamentals of communicating about ESG and understanding audiences haven’t changed.”

Tony is an IABC Gold Quill winner who holds a Bachelor of Communications Studies from the University of Calgary and a Master of Arts in Communication from Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax. His thesis on public perceptions of ESG reporting was published in 2021, and his research paper on dealing with negative comments on social media was published in 2020. Tony is a passionate and positive collaborator who loves working in teams that want to make a difference.

The presentation will take place at Pembina Pipeline, 4000 585 – 8th Avenue SW at 5 p.m. Please RSVP to leanne.rekiel@plains.com by November 15.

The Sustainability in Energy SIG kicked off earlier this year with the intention of providing a forum for communicators working in sustainability to share experiences and best practices. The SIG typically meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month. For more information, contact Leanne Rekiel.
