I’ve had the pleasure of being an IABC member for 15 years. I joined as a student and I’ve maintained my membership each year, never thinking twice about whether or not I should renew.
In my time with the association, I’ve developed my knowledge and understanding of the communications profession, I’ve strengthened my skills as a communicator and I’ve built a strong network of peers – many of whom I consider great friends.
IABC has been very important for me and I know it’s important to you as a member –you wouldn’t have joined and continued your membership if it wasn’t.
This is why I’m focused on making this year a memorable one. It’s the Calgary chapter’s 50th anniversary and many of our members are looking to us to commemorate this milestone. Our profession has played an important role in our city over the past half century and we need to celebrate our many achievements with our members and our city.
It’s a great responsibility to represent our profession, our city and our members. Thankfully, I have an amazing team of Board members and volunteers behind me who are as deeply invested in making this an awesome year.
We’ve spent the summer aligning ourselves to one goal: Celebrating IABC/Calgary’s 50th anniversary. We’ve aligned all of our plans, events and activities towards making this THE year that will define IABC and what it does for our profession in Calgary.
We’re rallying everyone, from our Board of Directors, to our volunteers and members, to reach out to our communities. We want to celebrate with former members, community leaders, partner associations and anyone who understands the value that communications brings to our vibrant city. This year, it’s about building and nurturing connections.
As we start to implement our plans, you’ll soon see more on what you can expect for our 50th year.
My first ask of you is this: Join us.
Become a part of our celebrations. Spread the word. Feel the pride of belonging to the International Association of Business Communicators.
This year is going to be special and we want to share it with you.
Cheers,
Will Tigley
President IABC/Calgary 2016-17
