President – Sharon Lee
Sharon has more than 10 years of experience working in the private and not-for-profit sectors. As a communications consultant, she is passionate about helping clients tell their stories. Sharon has been volunteering for IABC/Calgary for a number of years, including being on the board for five years and helping with the 50th anniversary gala event. Sharon has a Master of Arts in Communication and Culture, University of Calgary, and has an Advanced Social Media Certificate from the University of San Francisco.
Vice President – Natasha Qereshniku
Natasha holds a BA in Communications Studies from the University of Calgary and completed coursework in collaborative conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation with the Justice Institute of British Columbia. She has over seven years of experience working on internal/external communications, strategic communications, leadership communications, engagement and supporting change management. Currently, she is leading the communications for The City of Calgary’s 2019-2022 service planning and budgeting program. An IABC/Calgary member since 2012, this is her third year on the board.
Past President – Angela Anderson
Angela is currently the senior manager, communications with Banff & Lake Louise Tourism. She has over 12 years diverse experience in corporate and external communications, crisis communications and reputation management in the tourism, media, real estate, non-profit and energy sectors. Angela has her Bachelor of Applied Communications – Journalism from Mount Royal University and her Master of Arts – Intercultural and International Communications from Royal Roads University. She has volunteered with IABC since 2011, and has been on the board since 2013.
Director, Administration – Erin Fahey
Erin has her BA in Professional Communications from Royal Roads University and has over 10 years of event management experience. She currently works as an independent marketing consultant supporting a local non-profit advocacy group. She is passionate about volunteering and community engagement, and is always dreaming of where to travel next.
Co-Director, Career Services (Jobline, Bidline) – James Mottershead
James began his career in communications in 2010 and has held positions in the retail, energy, nonprofit and education sectors. He is currently a strategic communications advisor with the Alberta Energy Regulator. He holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Calgary and a Public Relations Certificate from MRU.
Co-Director, Career Services (Mentorship, Company of One) – Michelle MacPherson
Founder of Maven & Mention, Michelle is a local entrepreneur, creative thinker and champion of community – with a zest for storytelling and a love of branding and all things social. With 15+ years in marketing communications, Michelle gets jazzed about creating meaningful content and shaping memorable brand experiences. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from the University of Alberta School of Business, as well as Digital Communications and Social Media for Business Certificates from Mount Royal University Continuing Education. She’s also an avid foodie, outdoor enthusiast, active volunteer, educator and supporter of the arts.
Director, Finance – Shelly Nowroski
Shelly created Illuminate Consulting Group out of a passion for building communication capability, solving communications issues and delivering communications projects that get results. During her 15 years of corporate experience across multiple industries, she developed unique skill sets including technology, process, project management, change and, of course, communications. Shelly holds a Commerce (Hons) degree from the University of Manitoba and an MBA from Queen’s University.
Director, Community Partnerships/Sponsorship – Naomi Koit
As a communications generalist, Naomi is passionate about finding innovative ways to use communications tools in support of corporate objectives while navigating the constantly connected digital world we live in. With an undergraduate degree from Queen’s University and a Master’s degree in political science from UVIC, Naomi has applied her research on how social networking technologies are changing the way we communicate to her work.
Co-Director Professional Development – Natasha Cousin
Natasha has 9 years’ marketing and communications experience in non-profit, transportation and food industries. As a generalist she has worked in roles ranging from media spokesperson to strategic advisor to digital content creator. Natasha has been volunteering with IABC/Calgary since 2011 and holds a Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University.
Co-Director Professional Development – Tim Shaw
Tim is a long-time IABC member and has been involved as a volunteer with both the Calgary and Toronto chapters. He brings over 10 years experience in planning and implementing advocacy and communications strategies in the healthcare, non-profit, pharma, tech and energy industries. Tim works for the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association where he is the senior communications advisor, advocacy and industry initiatives.
Director, Marketing – Rio Pisony
With a Bachelor of International Management from the University of Lethbridge, Rio has spent the last six years in Calgary supporting strategic communications projects. With an excitement for digital marketing including web design, social media and analytics, Rio recently stepped into a full-time consulting role to help small businesses tell their story.
Co-Director, Member Communication (Website) – Kristy Dixon
Kristy is a communications leader with 14 years of experience. Always seeking to learn, she enjoys enabling others to communicate effectively and build amazing brands. She currently works with a social enterprise and has experience including startups and utilities. Kristy holds a BA Communications (University of SA) and a Masters in Project Management (University of Adelaide).
Co-Director, Member Communication (Newsletter) – Alison Abel
Ali has a BA in Communications from the University of Calgary. She has been working as a communicator since 2006, and is currently the marketing and communications manager for the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. Ali has been volunteering with IABC/Calgary since 2012, and won the new Volunteer of the Year in 2015.
Director, Membership – Robin Eldred
Robin is a veteran Executive who has been involved in digital media for over 20 years. His extensive range of skills and experience allow him to be a proficient business leader, project manager, digital strategist and account manager. He has worked on over 300 digital projects since 1997.
Director, Professional Standards – Nancy Helledie
Nancy moved back to her hometown a few years ago after living 20 years in Denmark, where she has experience as a senior business communications and human resources leader, professional coach, and advisor at two market-leading global companies – Borealis/Borouge and Tetra Pak International. She is now a senior communications advisor at Suncor Energy. She has been a member of IABC since 1996.
Director, Student Development – Anna de Souza
Anna is originally from Australia and lived in the UK for five years before making Canada her home in 2010. She has a passion for storytelling, especially through writing and communications. She holds a masters in writing and a graduate certificate in communications. Anna loves cooking, being outside, and sampling Alberta’s amazing beer. You’ll often find her in the mountains – you’ll probably hear her before you see her. She also has two cats (known as the furjerks).
Director, Volunteer Services and Development – Gail Conway
Gail has over 25 years of experience working in communications and marketing, and is currently working as an independent consultant. She holds a Bachelors Degree with Distinction from the University of Winnipeg, and a Communications and Advertising Accredited Professional (C.A.A.P) designation. Gail was Volunteer of the Year for IABC in 2014.
