January 28, 2017, will go down in IABC/Calgary’s history as a night when more than 100 communicators and guests came together to celebrate our Chapter’s 50th birthday. It was an amazing sight to see and the energy in the room was inspiring.
A surprise visit by Mayor Nenshi kicked off the evening with a passionate speech about the importance of community spirit. We were joined by Sharon Hunter, the IABC International Vice-Chair, who talked about what the future of IABC could be. Throughout the evening, we enjoyed performances from jazz vocalist, Deanne Matley, hip hop dancing from The Beast Machine and a futuristic piece from the Masks International Show. Marissa Javier painted throughout the night with our guests, and we can’t wait to see the final painting.
Above all, we concluded the night with a special presentation to Allison MacKenzie, who formally accepted her Master Communicator designation, the highest honour a communicator can receive in Canada. She was surrounded by fellow Master Communicators – Glenna Cross, Ron Kustra, John Larsen and Jennifer Wah.
It was a night when we celebrated our past, connected with each other, and looked into the future of IABC/Calgary. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate this important milestone. I appreciated the opportunity to connect with all of you. This is the start of many things to come so stay tuned.
Sincerely,
Will Tigley, President
IABC/Calgary Chapter
