  • January 20, 2016 Connecting Generations Workshop

    Glenna Cross and Jolene Ondrik shared their vast knowledge of the characteristics of generations, current and future, that take part in the workforce. This knowledge included best practices for engaging and valuing the members of each generation, which will cost organizations if they ignore generational differences. Further, attendees participated in a fun stereotypes exercise, which revealed that every generation has a wealth of benefits to share in the workforce!

  • November 17, 2015 Energy in Crisis: The Role of Communicators

    Keynote speaker Chelsie Klassen, Media Relations Manager for the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, examined current challenges faced by the energy industry and explored how communicators can turn obstacles into opportunities. She highlighted the importance of public confidence and the need to inform, involve and inspire Albertans to be energy industry advocates.

    The panel discussed how to achieve market access, the role of government relations, how to stay competitive in a ‘crisis’ environment, and stakeholder relations approaches.

  • October 23, 2015 Government Relations Workshop

    Lee Funke, President of Torque Communications, presented the case for careful and deliberate government engagement at this Government Relations workshop.

    Lee detailed the various activities that can constitute government relations and stressed that technology has created a new reality, characterized by multiple conversations occurring simultaneously. In order to pursue government relations activities, Lee shared a number of helpful tools to remain informed of the public policy-making process, which can range from Hansard records to specialized political publications.

Their report revealed that today’s complexity is only expected to rise, and more than half of CEOs doubt their ability to manage it. Given our own experience with organizations and their senior leaders, finding new ways to think about organizational complexity and develop effective strategies is the hallmark of strategic leadership.

    In 2010, IBM conducted face to face interviews with over 1500 CEOs around the world. Their report revealed that today’s complexity is only expected to rise, and more than half of CEOs doubt their ability to manage it.
