President – Angela Anderson
Angela is currently the Senior Manager, Communications with Banff & Lake Louise Tourism. She has over 12 years diverse experience in corporate and external communications, crisis communications and reputation management in the tourism, media, real estate, non-profit and energy sectors. Angela has her Bachelor of Applied Communications – Journalism from Mount Royal University and her Master of Arts – Intercultural and International Communications from Royal Roads University. She has volunteered with IABC since 2011, and has been on the board since 2013.
Vice President – Sharon Lee
Sharon has more than 10 years of experience working in the private and not-for-profit sectors. As a communications consultant, she is passionate about helping clients tell their stories. Sharon has been volunteering for IABC/Calgary for a number of years, including being on the board for five years and helping with the 50th anniversary gala event. Sharon has a Master of Arts in Communication and Culture, University of Calgary, and has an advanced social media certificate from the University of San Francisco.
Past President – Will Tigley
A communication specialist focusing on community engagement, Will has been involved with IABC in various capacities for over 10 years. With experiences in agriculture, government, oil and gas, not-for-profit and culture, Will is excited to bring his communications expertise back to the association that helped launch his career.
Director, Administration – Alexandra Frison
Alex is an award-winning communications professional with almost 20 years of experience. Working mainly in energy and finance, her experience includes all aspects of communications – communications counsel, research, branding and narrative development, internal and external communications strategy development, change management communications, media relations, digital and employee communications. She is currently a Director at NATIONAL Public Relations. She holds an MA in Counselling Psychology and a BA in Communications and in Psychology. She has been a member of IABC since 1998.
Co-Director, Career Development – James Mottershead
James began his career in communications in 2010 and has held positions in the retail, energy, non-profit and education sectors. He is currently the director of marketing and communications at West Island College. He holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Calgary and a Public Relations Certificate from Mount Royal University.
Co-Director, Career Development – Kathy Daeninck
Kathy has over 15 years of working in senior roles in marketing and communications. She has recently transferred from IABC/Toronto to IABC/Calgary and is currently working as an independent consultant. She will bring to the board her creativity, drive and leadership to further develop the Calgary chapter. Her work to date with IABC/Calgary includes a number of communication projects for which she received the Volunteer of the Year award in 2015.
Director, Finance – Shelly Nowroski
Shelly created Illuminate Consulting Group out of a passion for building communication capability, solving communications issues and delivering communications projects that get results. During her 15 years of corporate experience across multiple industries, she developed unique skill sets including technology, process, project management, change and, of course, communications. Shelly holds a Commerce (Hons) degree from the University of Manitoba and an MBA from Queens’ University.
Director, Community Partnerships/Sponsorship – Naomi Koit
As a communications generalist, Naomi is passionate about finding innovative ways to use communications tools in support of corporate objectives while navigating the constantly connected digital world we live in. With an undergraduate degree from Queen’s University and a Master’s degree in political science from UVIC, Naomi has applied her research on how social networking technologies are changing the way we communicate to her work.
Co-Director Professional Development (Events) – Erin Fahey
Erin has her BA in Professional Communications from Royal Roads University and has over ten years of event management experience. She currently works as an independent marketing consultant supporting a local non-profit advocacy group. She is passionate about volunteering and community engagement, and is always dreaming of where to travel next.
Co-Director Professional Development (Events) – Julie Duncan
Julie is a communications consultant with over seven years of experience. She brings a client-centric and focused approach to help organizations leverage strategic communications and achieve business goals. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Calgary and a Certificate in Public Relations from Mount Royal University.
Director, Marketing – Kristy Archibald
Kristy is a communications graduate from the University of Calgary and is currently working as a communications contractor and freelance lifestyle writer. Throughout her career she has worked extensively with social media and events and has worked in varying industries from oil and gas to the non-profit sectors.
Co-Director, Member Communication (Website) – Natasha Qereshniku
Natasha holds a B.A. in Communications Studies from the University of Calgary and completed coursework in collaborative conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation with the Justice Institute of British Columbia. She has over seven years of experience working on internal/external communications, strategic communications, leadership communications, engagement and supporting change management. Currently, she is leading the communications for The City of Calgary’s 2019-2022 service planning and budgeting program. An IABC/Calgary member since 2012, this is her third year on the board.
Co-Director, Member Communication (Newsletter) – Alison Abel
Ali has a BA in Communications from the University of Calgary. She has been working as a communicator since 2006, and is currently the marketing and communications manager for the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. Ali has been volunteering with IABC/Calgary since 2012, and won New Volunteer of the Year in 2015. She is currently in her second year on the board.
Director, Membership – Rhonda Macdonald
Rhonda has over 20 years of experience working in various industries including the energy sector, agriculture and not-for-profit. Her work through mergers and acquisitions, transformational change, crisis communications, corporate and digital media strategy development, employee communications and brand management round out her career to-date. She is currently Manager, Business Services and Strategy & Corporate Development at Suncor Energy and an active volunteer in IABC’s Mentor program. Rhonda has been a member of IABC since her student days in 1995.
Director, Professional Standards – Nancy Helledie
Nancy moved back to her hometown a few years ago after living twenty years in Denmark, where she has experience as a senior, business communications and human resources leader, professional coach, and advisor at two market-leading, global companies – Borealis/Borouge and Tetra Pak International. She is now a senior communications advisor at Suncor Energy. She has been a member of IABC since 1996.
Director, Student Development – Casey Knoll
Casey has expertise in multimedia content development. This includes writing content for online purposes and producing videos and photography. Through this skill set, she has helped organizations raise their profile. She has been an IABC/Calgary board member for four years and also owns a photography business.
Director, Volunteer Services and Development – Gail Conway
Gail has over 20 years of experience working in communications and marketing, and is currently working as an independent consultant. She holds a Bachelors Degree with Distinction from the University of Winnipeg, and a Communications and Advertising Accredited Professional (C.A.A.P) designation. Gail was Volunteer of the Year for IABC in 2014.
