President – Will Tigley
A communication specialist focusing on community engagement, Will has been involved with IABC in various capacities for over 10 years. With experiences in agriculture, government, oil and gas, not-for-profit and culture, Will is excited to bring his communications expertise back to the association that helped launch his career.
Vice President – Angela Anderson
Involved with IABC/Calgary for over five years in a variety of roles, Angela has 10 plus years of experience in communications and journalism. Her current role is external relations advisor with the Alberta Electric System Operator and she has worked in media, real estate, non-profit and energy sectors. Angela has also completed her Masters at Royal Roads University.
Past President – Sheila Carruthers
Sheila is our local expert on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and has been a dedicated volunteer with IABC/Calgary for more than 10 years. She consults for both non-profit and business clients on CSR, teaches CSR at the University of Calgary, and trains the fundamentals of management consulting and ethical behaviour for CMC Canada.
Director, Administration – Amber Marechal
Amber runs her own consulting business supporting clients in the utilities, energy and financial services industries. During the last 10 years, she has helped more than 20 organizations with their change management, training and communications programs. Amber has a Bachelor’s of Applied Communications from MacEwan University and has been volunteering with IABC/Calgary since 2012.
Co-Director, Career Development – James Mottershead
James began his career in communications in 2011 and has held positions in the retail, energy and non-profit sectors. Most recently, he was a communications associate at the Calgary Foundation. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Calgary and a public relations certificate from Mount Royal University.
Co-Director, Career Development – Kathy Daeninck
Kathy has over 15 years of working in senior roles in marketing and communications. She has recently transferred from IABC/Toronto to IABC/Calgary and is currently working as an independent consultant. She will bring to the board her creativity, drive and leadership to further develop the Calgary chapter. Her work to date with IABC/Calgary includes a number of communication projects for which she received the Volunteer of the Year award in 2015.
Co-Director, Finance – Sandra Rogoza
Sandra has a diverse communication and business background in organizations ranging from start-up to mature. She is the director, Communication and Investor Relations for FoodChek Systems Inc. Sandra is responsible for B2B and B2C products sales, lead qualification, client relations, inbound and online marketing, and sales funnel reporting.
Co-Director, Finance – Rhonda Macdonald
Rhonda has over 20 years of experience working in various industries including the energy sector, agriculture and not-for-profit. Her work through mergers and acquisitions, transformational change, crisis communications, corporate and digital media strategy development, employee communications and brand management round out her career to-date. She is currently Manager, Business Services and Strategy & Corporate Development at Suncor Energy and an active volunteer in IABC’s Mentor program. Rhonda has been a member of IABC since her student days in 1995.
Director, Community Partnerships/Sponsorship – Naomi Koit
As a communications generalist, Naomi is passionate about finding innovative ways to use communications tools in support of corporate objectives while navigating the constantly connected digital world we live in. With an undergraduate degree from Queen’s University and a Master’s degree in political science from UVIC, Naomi has applied her research on how social networking technologies are changing the way we communicate to her work.
Co-Director Professional Development (Events) – Erin Fahey
Erin has her BA in Professional Communications from Royal Roads University and has over ten years of event management experience. She currently works in real estate sales and marketing for locally-based inner-city developer, Battistella Developments, and also as an independent digital marketing consultant. She is passionate about volunteering and community engagement, and is always dreaming of where to travel next.
Co-Director Professional Development (Events) – Julie Duncan
Julie is a communications consultant with over seven years of experience. She brings a client-centric and focused approach to help organizations leverage strategic communications and achieve business goals. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Calgary and a Certificate in Public Relations from Mount Royal University.
Director, Marketing – Kristy Archibald
Kristy is a communications graduate from the University of Calgary and is currently working as a communications contractor and freelance lifestyle writer. Throughout her career she has worked extensively with social media and events and has worked in varying industries from oil and gas to the non-profit sectors.
Co-Director, Member Communication (Website) – Natasha Qereshniku
Natasha has a B.A. in Communications Studies from the University of Calgary and over seven years of diverse communications experience in non-profit, energy and government. She has been a member of IABC since 2012 and currently works as a communications strategist with The City of Calgary’s Chief Financial Officer’s department supporting Finance and Corporate Initiatives.
Co-Director, Member Communication (Newsletter) – Alison Abel
Ali has a BA in Communications from the University of Calgary. She has been working as a communicator since 2006, and is currently the marketing and communications manager for the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. Ali has been volunteering with IABC/Calgary since 2012, most recently as a member communications volunteer and won Volunteer of the Year for 2015.
Director, Membership – Gail Conway
Gail has over 20 years of experience working in communications and marketing, and is currently working as an independent consultant. She holds a Bachelors Degree with Distinction from the University of Winnipeg, and a Communications and Advertising Accredited Professional (C.A.A.P) designation. Gail was Volunteer of the Year for IABC in 2014.
Director, Professional Standards – Nancy Helledie
Nancy moved back to her hometown a few years ago after living twenty years in Denmark, where she has experience as a senior, business communications and human resources leader, professional coach, and advisor at two market-leading, global companies – Borealis/Borouge and Tetra Pak International. She is now a senior communications advisor at Suncor Energy. She has been a member of IABC since 1996.
Director, Student Development – Calvin Seaman
Calvin has been a communications leader for nearly a decade. With a focus on the internal audience he is currently director of communications at ATB Financial. Calvin has also spent time as a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary. Joining the board, he wants to give back to the broader IABC community, something he’s been a member of since 2009
Director, Volunteer Services – Donna Sinclair, ABC
Donna has over 15 years of experience in various industries including advertising, non-profit and government, and is currently department communications leader at The City of Calgary. Donna holds an ABC, a Bachelor of Management, Marketing diploma, and a C.A.A.P designation. She has filled many volunteer roles before joining the board including category coordinator and judge for the Gold Quill awards, ABC exam proctor and co-facilitator for IABC/Calgary’s Accreditation Completion Program.
